I’ve been a bit hit and miss with my posts recently but when I saw that Nikki over at The Night is Dark and Full of books had a new meme running I new I had to jump on board as I loved her Searching Saturday meme.
Here’s what Nikki has to say
Book Scavenger Hunt is a weekly meme hosted by me! Each month I post directions to find a book each week. These directions are connected with each other so that we form a chain of books.
Week 1: Find a book with flowers on the cover
This week is the first week so there are no previous directions to follow which makes it pretty simple.
For my first week I have chosen to pick from Goodreads since I haven’t had the time to get to a bookstore due to school holidays meaning I would have to drag the kids along too.
I’ve got to admit that at first glance all the covers looked very similar – black background with a red (or sometimes pink) flower. This is all well and good but I wanted something different so I kept searching.
So lets see what I chose.
The Color Purple is a 1982 epistolary novel by American author Alice Walker which won the 1983 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction and the National Book Award for Fiction. It was later adapted into a film and musical of the same name.
Taking place mostly in rural Georgia, the story focuses on the life of women of color in the southern United States in the 1930s, addressing numerous issues including their exceedingly low position in American social culture. The novel has been the frequent target of censors and appears on the American Library Association list of the 100 Most Frequently Challenged Books of 2000-2009 at number seventeen because of the sometimes explicit content, particularly in terms of violence.
I went for this book as in a sea of red and black the yellow sunflower jumped out at me before I realised what the book was. In fact this book has been on my TBR list for a while now, although it keeps getting pushed to the bottom of the pile for one reason or another. That said it will be staying as I will get around to reading it one day.
So there we have my first week of the scavenger hunt.
Have you read this book? Would you consider reading?
